Derek Wong’s mission is to improve the world through technology. With over 20 years of professional experience in cybersecurity, network engineering, and system administration, his focus is on making the Internet a more secure place. His first experience in cybersecurity came from running a FidoNet BBS in 1993. Since then, he has been instrumental in architecting and securing systems and networks for Internet Service Providers and CLECs, enterprises including BlackBerry, EMC, and Sandvine, as well as municipal utilities. He is currently President and CEO of Symbiotic Networks Inc, a Managed Security Services Provider based in Guelph, Ontario, as well as CEO of zabu Inc., a cybersecurity intelligence provider based in Waterloo, Ontario. Derek is an outspoken advocate of the open source movement.
